CALA MAESTRA

Cala Maestra, located in the North West of the Giannutri island, is one of the two freely accessible beaches on the island (other parts are accessible only with tourist guide or are not accessible) and is connected to Cala Spalmatoio by a path in the middle of the Mediterranean maquis.

The first thing that strikes the attention is certainly the sea. Looking down from the cliff you can see even the sea floor to a depth of several meters.

To access the pebbly beach of Cala Maestra, you must descend from a long stone staircase terminating with a Roman column, one of the famous ruins of the luxurious villa in marble, dating back to   the I-II century a.C. and belonging to the family of the Domizi Aenobarbi.

Cala Maestra was one of two maritime approaches to the Roman Villa.
